Hacking Social Problems with Data Science and Programming
About:

Participants will break into focus groups which may be:

  1. subject-specific like transport, budget, education;
  2. skill-specific like programming, data cleaning, data analysis, GIS;
  3. problem-specific if there is a clearly defined one shared at the start and there are people wanting to work on it;
  4. or a mix of these.

Groups will discuss on understanding the particular social problem and opportunities for intervention. They will document on the same, and build a library of data sources, ongoing projects, possible solutions etc that can be applied here. Then in co-ordination with the session moderators, they will pick one or more tasks to work on together, and document their steps and results.
